I am building a site that puts the language exercises from Franklin Huffman's 1970 text Cambodian System of Writing and Beginning Reader online. (This is just part two of that text.)
I have been entering the text in Microsoft Word 2003 and then cutting and pasting into the web-page. Yesterday I observed something peculiar.
I entered ប followed by ៀ in Word and things were fine. But when I copied and pasted this into the web-page, the two letters did not combine.
Visiting the khmeros.info site, I found that words with ៀ and ឿ on that site were all displayed in Firefox incorrectly (as well as possibly other characters that I am not yet familiar with).
Any idea what might be going on here?
Thanks,
Roger Sperberg
PS: I should add that other vowels display properly as do subscripted consonants. I am running Windows XP SP2 and Firefox 1.5.0.7, and I installed the KhmerOS fonts and keyboard. And, I'll repeat, I haven't observed any problems in Word.
PPS: The site is "Cambodian Language Exercises" at cambodian.tiddlyspot.com
I'm working my way through the 226 exercises there one at a time and since I am entering them into Word in order to spend more time on each exercise, I thought I would share my labors. I'll make a PDF and XML file when I'm finished so that everyone will have access to the information in whatever form is most useful for them.
