I installed the Khmer OS fonts and the NIDA keyboard and have been able to type in Microsoft Word with no problems.

Since I am a complete beginner, "typing" means entering a short list of very short words. :-)

I realize that Khmer prints with no spaces between words, except "serving as punctuation marks, rather like commas." And so when I enter text in Word and press the spacebar, no space actually appears on-screen.

My first question is whether a zero-width space is being inserted here? Is pressing spacebar between words a good idea?

And how do I get a "real" space, one that should be there?

Thanks for any help on this.
